Willy Wonka and the Coca-Cola Factory

The other morning, Kate took Tim and I for a nice brisk walk to a little restaurant. I forget the name of the place but the food was really good. I'm still feeling fat from it. I had poached eggs over potatoes. It was yummy. Tim finally got some cajun type food since when we were in Louisiana we just ate sandwiches. Kate was very generous and it was so fun to see her. I can't wait until she comes out this summer. Its funny that she lived in Arizona, a mere six hour drive, for so long and I never visited her. Only now that she's across the country do I bother to visit.

The houses in Kate's neighborhood are beautiful. Tall trees, beautiful houses, and giant yards. I could see myself living there apart from the cold. I love my warmth. So, Kate is staying in some guys house. He's renting out a couple of rooms to Kate and her friend. Its a very nice two story house, with a basement! We were doing laundry in the basement and there was a locked door. I asked a distracted Kate what was back there and then commenced to open the door before she could answer. It was just more basement but it look very creepy. Possibly where bodies were disposed of. Kate became freaked out and told me to shut the door...and lock it...and put a shovel in front of it.

Kate's roommate was home after we got back from brunch and her friend had a pug dog that was overly friendly. It was cute as far as pugs go. We packed up our stuff, grabbed our freshly dried laundry and said our goodbyes to Kate.

Tim and I drove to downtown Atlanta and found a $5 parking lot which was a steal. Then we got out, walked down eight flights of stairs in a very rhythmic fashion and made our way to Coca-Cola World bottling plant. Upon entering the plant we were ushered into a room full of people. A gentleman then began to tell us a bit about the history of Coca-Cola while we craned our necks to look at all the memorabilia on the walls. I swear it was like Willy Wonka's factory. After his little speech we made our way into a movie theater. We watched an extended version of that Coke commercial in which the viewer follows the path of a quarter into a vending machine as animated creatures prepare a fresh bottle of coke in a fantasy world. Its the one with the little fuzzy creatures with lips that kiss the bottle and then a parade appears to send the bottle off. I'm sure you've all seen it. Anyway, after the commercial the video continues to interview the creatures who are voiced by Coke employees. It was a cute and funny presentation after which, the screen rose and we were ushered into the factory proper.

We enter into a large open room with various attractions. We looked in on another theater with Coke commercials playing. Then we watched a really cheesy “4-D” movie about the mystery ingredient of Coke. (Spoiler Alert: You and I are the magical component.) Next we saw an art gallery all with Coke Imagery. We walked through a history of Coke area which was interesting. Finally, the best part of the factory was the tasting room. There we were treated with the opportunity to taste different Coke products from around the world. Suffice to say I was vey gassy afterward. I expected to float up towards the ceiling fan and then be scolded afterward for breaking the rules. To top it all off, we were given a free bottle of Coca-Cola. The end of the tour funnels you into the memorabilia store but we decided against buying anything. It was definitely worth the experience if you happen to be in Atlanta, I mean apart from the Oompa Loompas. Those guys freak me out.
